This home by Specht Harpman Architects is inspired by the previous fire-damaged barn that once stood in its place, making the most of its abundant space and high ceilings.

The Modern Barn Residence is exceptionally contemporary, yet it has an almost Art Deco feel to its geometry.

The use of space in this design is particularly interesting, with the traditional floor levels broken down into mezzanines, which overlook the ground areas.

Above these mezzanines, the ceiling detail remains entirely visible, with narrow beams offering insight into what would traditionally be the attic area.

These details are accentuated by the use of a crisp palette of naturals, showcased by clean, straight lines and tangibly smooth textures.

Wood is the dominant material in this refined design, which not only echoes its barn heritage but also provides a depth of richness in various hues of brown, which complement and contrast with each other and the lighter surroundings.

Nature is a significant aspect of the Modern Barn Residence, with a pile of logs on display behind the fireplace and fresh flowers on the dining table, adding a homely touch to the expansive space.

Other classical touches to the design include framed pictures and a piano, yet other more contemporary features include the transparent chairs at the dining table.
