Ana Jimenez has created a collection of fun furniture inspired by Mexican masks.
Ana’s collection, called ‘Los enmascarados’, uses the expressions of common festival masks to make pieces of furniture that are full of character and personality.
This is emphasised by the bold designs, which combine simple geometric shapes with bright colours and play with traditional forms of furniture to create something a little bit different.
The five pieces reinvigorate the simple silhouette of the chest of drawers and each are named after their inspiration, such as ‘the devil’ and ‘the buffoon’.
'The doubleface’ is the most striking design, representing good and bad through its features. Good, with its plain conventional legs on the ground, is countered by its fun-loving other side, which is painted green, has its legs in the air, and even has a drawer that opens upside down.
Ana said: “the intention was to get a deeper understanding of what it means to be Mexican through the exploration of a craft that defines this, in order to inspire the creation of a contemporary object.”
